Heinz Herwig received the "Diplomingenieur" and Ph.D. degrees in communication engineering from the Technische Universität Hannover, Germany, in 1969 and 1983, respectively.He began his research in 1969 in the field of geophysical experimental methods and the development of an airborn laser-radar remote sensing technique for ocean surface wave investigations. In 1972, he joined FWG where he worked on low-frequency channel reverberation in shallow water and subsurface scattering and absorption. His present interests are in sound transmission in the near-surface layer in the presence of bubbles.
