Ailan C. Chubb received the B.S. degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, in 1983. From 1987 to 1989, she completed the M.S. degree in nuclear engineering at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, where her research focus was niobium dosimetry. She is currently studying for her doctorate.

She worked for four years in naval nuclear propulsion, qualifying engineering officer of the watch on the TRIDENT prototype in 1984 while employed by General Electric, KAPL. She joined the engineering faculty, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1989, where she taught for three years. She is a licensed P.E.
