Jan van Heteren was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on May 21, 1947. He received the M.Sc. degree in civil engineering from the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands.Since joining Rijkswaterstaat, The Hague, The Netherlands, he has worked in the field of hydraulic research, especially, in wave kinematics and wave directionality. He is currently involved in the application of remote-sensing techniques for wave and current measurements, e.g., HF radar systems.
