Yusong Cao received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, South China Institute of Technology, in 1982 and 1985, respectively. In 1991, he received the Ph.D. degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, specializing in marine hydrodynamics, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.After completing the Masters program, he joined the faculty of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, South China Institute of Technology, where he taught fluid mechanics and computer programming, and conducted research on ship hydrodynamics and ship design. After completing the doctoral program, he worked in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, University of Michigan, as a postdoctoral research fellow. In 1994, he joined Analytical Methods, Inc., Redmond, WA, as a senior research scientist. His research activities in the United States have been in computational fluid dynamics, nonlinear ship motion, marine propeller analysis and design, drag reduction of underwater rockets, automatic control of marine vehicles, and the prevention of oil tanker spills and pollution.
Dr. Cao is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
