Anatolij M. Shutko was born in Moscow, USSR, on February 25, 1939. He graduated from the Electrotechnical Institute of Communication, Odessa, USSR, as an Engineer of Radio Communication in 1961.

Since 1964 he has been with the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow. In 1967 he received the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences from that Institute. He is a Senior Scientist and Head of Remote Sensing Group. In 1983 he was awarded the honorary title of a State Prize Laureate for his works in the microwave radiometry of moist soils and grounds. His interests include radio waves propagation and microwave radiometry of land and sea surface.
