William C. Meecham received the B.S, degree in engineering physics, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematical physics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the last in 1955.He served in the U.S. Army and received the Meritorious Service Award. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan until 1960 when he left to become a Full Professor at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He spent a year and a half on leave at Lockheed Palo Alto Laboratory, Palo Alto, CA, and has since been a Professor of Acoustics and Fluid Mechanics at the University of California. Los Angeles. He has published more than 100 papers in the fields of acoustics and fluid mechanics. His work on airport noise has led to dozens of TV appearances and articles in newspapers and magazines, including Time and Newsweek. He is or was a Consultant for the Aerospace Corporation, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, General Electric Co., Boeing Aircraft Co., TRW, Rand Corporation. and others.
Dr. Meecham is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and an Associate Fellow of AIAA.
