Antonio R. Dias (M'80) was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1948. He received the electrical engineering degree from the University of Porto in 1971 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, in 1977 and 1980, respectively.From 1971 to 1975 he was a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Porto where he taught courses in Communications and was involved in microwave research. From 1976 to 1980 he was a Research Assistant with the Information Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He was involved in several research projects in coherent and incoherent optical processing, namely the development of very fast incoherent optical matrix vector multipliers. Since 1980 he has been a member of the technical staff of the Radar Division of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, where he has been involved in digital signal and image processing for imaging radars, and optical computing.
Dr. Dias is a member of the Optical Society of America and the Society of Photo-Optical and Instrumentation Engineers.
