James Coyne was born in 1931 in Yonkers, NY. He received the B.S. (1954), M.S. (1958), and Eng. Sc.D. (1966) degrees in mechanical engineering from Columbia University, New York City.He joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1958, where he has worked on wire connection reliability, loop plant cable burial, mainframe automation, heat transfer studies of electronic cabinets, and, most recently, on cable mechanics in the Undersea Systems Development Laboratory.
