Hideaki Sakai (M'78) was born in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, on October 5, 1948. He received the B.E. and Dr. Eng. degrees in applied mathematics and physics from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1.972 and 1981, respectively.From 1975 to 1978, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Science and System Engineering, Tokushima University, Tokushima, Japan, and is now With the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics, Kyoto University, where he is an Associate Professor. His research interests are in the areas of time-series analysis and statistical signal processing. He is now serving as a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews.
Dr. Sakai is a member of the Japan Association of Automatic Control Engineers, the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers of Japan, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
