Susan D. Gardner received the B.S. degree in physics and the B.A. degree in English from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, in 1988 and the M.S. degree in applied physics from the University of New Orleans, LA, in 1995.
She worked for the Sichuan Institute of Foreign Languages in Chongqing, China, as a Foreign Language Teacher from 1988-1989. After returning to the US, she worked for Biorecovery Systems, Inc., in Las Cruces, NM, designing, building, and installing detector assemblies for industrial toxic waste removal and disposal systems. Since coming to the Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center, MS, in 1990, she has worked in the Arctics Acoustics Branch and the Tactical Noise Section performing development and testing of algorithms for ocean noise characterization as well as the processing and interpretation of ambient noise data. She currently processes and analyzes volume reverberation data in the High Frequency Section.
