George D. Darling (M'79) was born in Detroit, MI, in 1942. He received the B.A. degree in physics from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, in 1964, and the M.S. degree in nuclear science and the Ph.D. degree in biophysics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 1966 and 1975, respectively.He spent two years as a Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, Long Island, NY, where he worked on the neutron real space refinement of the protein, myoglobin. Since 1980 he has been a Research Engineer in the Digital Processing Laboratory of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, where he has been involved in the specification and design of software systems for radar processing and simulation, real time control systems, and CAD development systems. His main interests are software engineering, 3-D graphics systems, image processing and understanding, and man-machine interfaces.
Dr. Darling is a member of ACM, Sigma Xi, and Sigma Pi Sigma.
