Dennis W. Ricker (S'59-SM'81) received the B.E.E. degree from Union College, Schenectady, NY, in 1961, the M.S.E.E. degree from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, in 1963, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN, in 1969.
He has since been with the Applied Research Laboratory of The Pennsylvania State University where he currently holds the dual titles of Senior Scientist and Professor of Acoustics. For 26 years he has conducted research primarily in the area of active sonar echolocation with emphasis in detection and estimation theory, high resolution imaging, deconvolution, scattering functions, signal design, and wideband (wavelet) processing of sonar signals. His most recent work has been directed toward the development of new methodologies for echo detection and classification in spread channels based upon the space-time correlative properties of acoustic signals. He has published extensively on various aspects of echo location and has two patents in that area.
