Meng Hwa Er (S'83) was born in Singapore on February 1, 1956. He received the B.E. (electrical) degree with first class honors from the National University of Singapore in 1981.

He worked for Hewlett Packard Singapore as Production Engineer in the Instrument Product Group from 1981 to 1982. He was awarded a University of Newcastle Postgraduate Research Scholarship in 1982 and is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Newcastle, Shortland, N.S.W., Australia. Since 1982, he has been a part-time Tutor and Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Newcastle. His current research interests include adaptive antenna array processing and digital signal processing in general.
