Roger J. Tremblay (M'83) was born in Worcester, MA, in 1951. He received the B.S.E.E. degree (Honors) from Northeastern University, Boston, MA, in 1974, and the M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1984 and 1995, respectively.
Since 1970, he has been with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, New London, CT. He has been actively involved in several research and development projects dealing with major active and passive surface ship sonar systems, developing both hardware and software used for at sea testing of new sonar data processing and display concepts, and conducting computer simulations and analysis of various signal processing algorithms. He has published research in the application of time-delay estimation algorithms to passive acoustic localization by surface ship or submarine sonars and was Principal Investigator for Data Analysis in the Submarine Inter-Array Processing Program. He is now Principle Investigator for a research project in statistical pattern recognition as applied to the classification of sonar signals. His research interests are in digital signal processing, time-delay estimation, statistical pattern recognition and artificial intelligence as applied to sonar systems and underwater acoustics.
