Linda V. Martin Traykovski was born in Toronto, ON, Canada, on May 23, 1966. She received the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo, ON, in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in biological oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (MIT/WHOI) Joint Program in Oceanography and Applied Ocean Science and Engineering in 1998.
While earning her B.A.Sc degree, she participated in a cooperative work/education program, involving several four-month-long job placements. In 1985 and 1986, she worked as a Lab Technician at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Toronto, ON, monitoring air and water quality using ION Chromatography. In 1987, she held a position as a Quality Consultant at the General Motors Quality Resource Center, Oshawa, ON, where she coordinated and conducted a Design of Experiments on paint film thickness. In 1988, she worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at the General Motors Truck Assembly Plant, Oshawa, ON, where she designed and installed a fault diagnostic/reporting system for several key process interfaces and was responsible for equipment maintenance and monitoring. In 1989 she worked as a Design and Development Engineer at Fullerton Sherwood Engineering, Mississauga, ON, Canada, where her job responsibilities included the design of special purpose rebreather diving apparatus for the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine (DCIEM), and the development of a dive simulation program for testing various regulator settings and dive profiles. After earning her B.A.Sc., she held a position as a Product Development Engineer with Procter and Gamble, Inc. (P&G), Toronto, ON, designing and executing a competitive product technical and consumer research program. After two years at P&G, she entered the MIT/WHOI Joint Program to pursue her interests in oceanography. She is currently working as a Post-Doctoral Investigator at WHOI, exploring optical variability in the ocean and developing approaches for water type optical classification.
Dr. Martin Traykovski is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, the American Society for Limnology and Oceanography, and Sigma Xi. She is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a member of Professional Engineers Ontario.
