Peter G. Collar joined the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences (United Kingdom) in 1968, having been awarded the degrees of B.Sc. in Physics (Bristol University) in 1961 and Ph.D., also in Physics, by Sheffield University in 1967. His interests have been mainly in the development of instrumentation for the remote measurement of physical parameters, and in the assessment of sensor performance.
