Steven G. Schock (S'86, M'88) was born in Warwick, RI, on August 21, 1956. He received the B.S. degree in ocean engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1979, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in ocean engineering at University of Rhode Island in 1986, respectively.

Since 1989 he has been a Faculty member in the Department of Ocean Engineering, Acoustics and Vibration Center, Florida Atlantic University. He teaches courses in acoustics, underwater sound propagation, and sonar system design. He is the co-developer of the Chirp Sonar. He is currently funded by ONR and NRL to develop techniques that remotely measure ocean sediment properties using normal incidence acoustics.

Dr. Schock is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the Marine Technology Society.
