Antony K. Liu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He received the B.S. degree from Taiwan National Chung-Hsing University and the Ph.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University, both in applied mathematics and mechanics, in 1970 and 1976, respectively.
Before he joined NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in 1986, he worked at the Dynamics Technology, Inc., Torrance, CA, as a Research Scientist, Group Manager, and later a Section Head of Ocean Technology. He was promoted to his current position, Senior Scientist, in 1992 at the Oceans and Ice Branch, Laboratory for Hydrospheric Processes at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He is a Principal Investigator for the ERS-1/2 satellite project of the European Space Agency, JERS-1 satellite verification program of Japan and RADARSAT application development and research opportunity program of Canada. He has led several interdisciplinary projects in conducting remote sensing research in the internal wave, ship wakes, and ocean-ice interaction with applications to climate study, fisheries oceanography, and ocean coastal monitoring using satellite data.
