Henry Perkins received the Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in 1970.

He has been an Oceanographer with the U.S. Navy since 1979 when he joined the Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity at Stennis Space Center, MS, now part of the Naval Research Laboratory. From 1989 to 1994, he was temporarily at SACLANT Center in Italy as a Principal Research Scientist. His research interests are ocean observations directed toward regional dynamics, tides and internal waves, and data assimilation.
