Steven Finette received the Ph.D. degree in biophysics from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, in 1979, where his research involved the application of the neural network theory to mammalian visual perception.
As a Research Associate in the Department of Radiology at the University of Arizona (1980-1982), Tucson, he worked on the problem of breast tumor classification using ultrasound and statistical pattern recognition techniques. From 1982 to 1989, he was an Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, where his research interests included biosimulation and medical imaging. From 1989 to the present, he has been a Research Physicist in the Acoustics Division at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC, where his research efforts in ocean acoustics include the development of deconvolution techniques for acoustic transients, modeling ambient noise emitted from breaking surface waves, and numerical simulations of stochastic wave propagation in ocean waveguides.
Dr. Finette is a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
