J. Michael Hall is a physical oceanographer presently working for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as Program Manager, Ocean Climate Technology, in the Office of Ocean Technology and Engineering Services. Before joining NOAA's Data Buoy Office and later the NOAA Office of Ocean Engineering as Chief Scientist, he worked as a research engineer for Shell Development and as a research scientist for Boeing Scientific Research Laboratories. He has also served as an executive scientist to the U.S. GARP Committee of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Hall received his B.A. degree in Physics from Rice University, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physical Oceanography from the University of Washington. For the last several years and into the foreseeable future, his interests are in the area of ocean climate research and particularly in defining and developing measurement systems for climate research.
