Russell R. Bessette received the B.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, in 1962 and the Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1967.In 1967 Dr. Bessette became a Senior Research Chemist at the Olin Corporation Research Center in New Haven, CT. He has served on the faculty at Southeastern Massachusetts University, N. Dartmouth, since 1968, where he is now Professor of Chemistry and Chairman of that department. During the summers of 1975 and 1976 he held research fellowships at Iowa State University, and he has been appointed Faculty Research Associate in the Navy-ASEE Faculty Research Program for the summer, 1988. He has served as a consultant in electroanalytical chemistry at ENDECO, INC., of Marion, MA, since 1986. His research interests include development of electrochemical detectors for the measurement of dissolved oxygen, chemically modified electrodes, and high-energy-density battery systems.
Dr. Bessette is a member of the American Chemical Society, Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Education Divisions.
