Barbara J. Sotirin received the B.S. in electrical engineering from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA, in 1980, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego, CA, in 1988 and 1989 respectively.

Between 1980-1985 and 1990-1996, she was the US manager for the joint US/Canadian Project Spinnaker at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego. During 1997, she was a staff specialist in Naval Warfare at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, DC. She is currently Director of the US Army Corps of Engineers Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, Hanover, NH. Her research since 1982 has focused on Arctic experimental techniques, underwater acoustics, and oceanography.

Dr. Sotirin is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.
