Dr. Ahmed Amin is a physicist in the Transducer Materials Branch of NUWC's Submarine Sonar Department. His work at NUWC is in the area of piezoelectric, electrostrictive, and field assisted transduction for high performance sonar. Prior to joining NUWC he was a senior member of the technical staff at Texas Instruments Incorporated (1980-99) where he worked extensively in the development of TI thermistors, automotive and commercial sensors, and densely populated arrays for uncooled infrared imaging and night vision applications. His contributions to the open literature include: the phenomenological model of the piezoelectric PZT system, the effect of elastic and electric fields on morphotropic PZT compositions, measurement and modeling of the double Schottky barriers in semiconducting ferroelectrics, pyroelectric imaging, and piezoresistivity. He has 47 referred journal papers, 3 book chapters, 2 patents, and 10 technical reports.
