Neil J. Williams was born in New York, NY on July 9, 1956. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, and the M.S. degree in ocean engineering from the University of Miami, and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Applied Marine Physics Division of the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (RSMAS) with an expected graduation date of May, 1996.

He has been a Research Associate at RSMAS since 1981--working in an underwater acoustics research group. He has participated in a number of experiments designed to investigate various aspects of underwater acoustics--including long range propagation, acoustic tomography, arctic acoustics, shallow water acoustics, geoacoustic modeling and sea surface reverberation. His research interests include: mechanical design of oceanographic instrumentation and mooring systems, acoustic transducer development, signal processing and data analysis, and acoustic modeling and inversion methods.

Mr. Williams is a member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
