Richard Lee Culver (S'85) was born in San Fernando, CA, in 1951. He earned the B.S. degree in ocean engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, in 1974, the M.S. degree in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, San Diego, CA, in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego, in 1988.From 1974 to 1980 he served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at Integrated Systems Analysts, San Diego, CA, as an acoustics/vibration engineer from 1980 to 1985. From 1983 to 1988 he was a Research Assistant at the Marine Physical Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is currently a Research Engineer at Integrated Systems Analysts and a Postgraduate Research Engineer at the Marine Physical Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography. His research interests are sound measurement in the ocean and parameter estimation.
Dr. Culver is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute and the Marine Technology Society.
