Dajun Tang was born in Beijing, China, on December 22, 1958. He received the B.S. degree from the University of Science and Technology, China, in 1982, the M.S. degree from the Institute of Acoustics, China, in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in oceanographic engineering from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in 1991.

He is an Assistant Scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His research interests are mainly in seabed acoustics, especially sound scattering by inhomogeneous sediments.
