Karl J. Eidsvik received the Cand Real degree in 1965 and the Dr. Phil. degree in 1983, both in geophysics, from Oslo University, Norway.

He has worked with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (1965-1978) and the Norwegian Air Research Institute (1979-1989). Presently he is a Senior Scientist at the Norwegian Hydrotechnical Laboratory, Trondheim, Norway (1981-). He has given courses at the Norwegian Technical University (1982-). He has published on geophysical turbulence, turbulent dispersion, and objective identification of stochastic models. In addition to his interest in the geophysical sciences, he is concerned with optimal design and control of systems to operate in stochastic environments.

Dr. Eidsvik is a member of the Norwegian Geophysical Society and the American Geophysical Union.
