Brian Maranda was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1957. In 1979 he received the B.Sc. degree in mathematics and physics, and in 1982 the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, both from the University of British Columbia. He has worked in the Ocean Acoustics Group at the Defence Research Establishment Pacific since 1983, where his primary interest has been the application of signal processing to towed-array sonars. His other research interests are in the fields of detection and estimation.
