Theodore G. Birdsall (M'57-LM'93) received the B.S.E. degree, the M.S. degree in mathematics, and the Ph.D. degree in communication sciences.
He is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has worked in engineering research since 1951 and has been on the teaching faculty since 1967. His primary interest is in the extraction of information from noisy signals, and his research has ranged from signal detection theory, through human hearing, radar, sonar, and spread spectrum communications to long-range underwater acoustic propagation, ocean acoustic tomography, and acoustic monitoring of ocean processes.
