Jimmy C. Larsen received the B.A. degree cum laude in physics from University of California, Riverside, in 1958; the M.S. degree in geophysics from California Institute of Technology in 1960; and the Ph.D. degree in oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1966 for a thesis on tidal induced magnetic fields.He joined the Joint Tsunami Research Effort of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1966, and in 1977 transferred to the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, NOAA, Seattle, Washington. His research has primarily been in fluid and electromagnetic induction studies in the ocean.
