Donald W. Tufts (S'58-M'61-SM'72-F'82) was born in Yonkers, NY, on March 5, 1933. He received the B.A. degree in mathematics from Williams College, Williamstown, MA, in 1955. He received the B.S., M.S., and D.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1957, 1958, and 1960, respectively. He was a Bell Telephone Laboratories Fellow at M.I.T.From 1960 to 1967 he was at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, first as a Research Fellow and Lecturer and later as an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics. Since 1967, he has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston. He has been a Consultant to Bell Telephone Laboratories, Sanders Associates Inc., and other companies.
