Charles I. Malme received the bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1954, and the E.E. degree in 1959 and the S.M. degree in 1958, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.He was employed as a Senior Scientist at BBN Systems and Technologies from 1960 to 1993. While at BBN his work involved measurement of underwater sound transmission in oceanic and shallow water environments, underwater sensor system design and analysis, and development of directional sound source and reflector systems. He is now a consultant in underwater acoustics. He recently has been investigating the effects of high-level underwater sound sources on marine mammals and other marine species.
Mr. Malme is a member of the Acoustical Society of America.
