Xiao-Feng Wu was born in Hangzhou, China, on June 17, 1957. He received the B.S.M.E. degree from Zhejiang University in 1982. There he received a full scholarship and was designated a Three-Merits Student for excellence in character, intellectual achievement, and physical fitness. Upon graduation he was awarded a Fellowship from the Chinese Government and went to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, in January 1983, where he received the M.S.M.E. degree in March 1984. He then continued with further graduate work and began working toward the Ph.D. degree in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. During this latter period he was supported by NASA- and ONR-funded research as a Research Assistant.His main interests are in structural acoustics, dynamics and vibrations, and noise control, and he served during 1985-1986 as Secretary of the Georgia Chapter of the Acoustical Society of America.
In 1986, Mr. Wu won a Short-Term-Enrichment-Program Grant from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and was selected to be listed in International Youth of Achievement.
