Philip R. Schaffner (S'75-M'79) received the B.S. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, in 1977 and 1983, respectively.

From 1977 to 1979 he worked for Old Dominion University Research Foundation on a NASA grant for development of software for aircraft Microwave Landing System (MLS) antenna performance modeling. Since 1979 he has been employed by Research Triangle Institute of North Carolina, working on contracts for NASA/Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA. He has been responsible for development of algorithms for reduction and analysis of microwave remote sensing data, mathematical modeling of reflector antenna physical and electrical characteristics, development of data acquisition systems, and implementation of algorithms for antenna radiation pattern predictions. He has been principal author of several reports on the MLS and coauthor of a number of papers in the area of microwave remote sensing.

Mr. Schaffner is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, and Gamma Beta Pi (ODU local of Tau Beta Pi).
