Hisashi Mitsuyasu was born in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1929. He received the B.Sc. degree in physics from Hiroshima University in 1952 and the Doctor of Science degree, also from Hiroshima University, in 1961.Between 1952 and 1964 he worked as a Research Staffer for the Port and Harbor Research Institute, Ministry of Transportation, Japan. During 1962-1963 he spent a year as a Research Scientist in the Department of Oceanography, Texas A & M University, College Station, TX. In 1964 he moved to the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University, Japan. He is now a Professor, working on various problems on the dynamics of ocean waves.
