Marshall D. Earle received the B.A. degree in physics in 1966 from the University of California at Riverside and the Ph.D. in oceanography in 1971 from Oregon State University.

He then worked as an oceanographer in private industry and for the Naval Oceanographic Office and the National Ocean Service. In 1978, he founded MEC Systems Corporation where he is President and Senior Oceanographer. With MEC he has managed or participated in approximately 100 oceanographic projects, with emphasis on ocean wave measurement, analysis, and modeling, He has worked with NDBC's wave measurement program since 1979. He has published several papers in the scientific literature and has co-authored or co-edited two books.

Dr. Earle is a member of the American Geophysical Union and the Marine Technology Society.
