Alexander Wasiljeff was born in Poznan, Poland, on April 28, 1936. He received the Diplomphysiker and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Saarland, Saarbrucken, Germany, in 1962 and 1966, respectively.From 1966 to 1971, he was Head of the Theoretical Studies Group at the Research Institute for High Frequency Physics (FHP), Bonn, Germany. He joined Saclantcen, La Spezia, Italy, as a Senior Scientist in 1971 to conduct research in underwater sound propagation and signal processing. Since 1975, he has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Bremen, Germany, He has been an elected member of commission F of the German committe of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) since 1970. His research interests include propagation of acoustic and electromagnetic waves and digital signal processing of speech and images with an emphasis on adaptive filtering of space and time-varying signals.
