Gerald L. D'Spain earned the B.A. degree in statistics in 1976 and the M.A. degree in geophysics in 1981, both from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Ph.D. degree in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla, CA, in 1990.
He has worked as an Assistant Actuarial Analyst, a Research Assistant at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories, an Exploration Geologist, a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Geology and Geophysics (University of California, Berkeley), and as a Consulting Seismologist. From 1982 to 1985, he worked as a Research Scientist with the Ocean Acoustics Associates, Pebble Beach, CA, and since 1985, has been with the Marine Physical Laboratory, University of California, San Diego. His present research interests are in the areas of ocean and air acoustics, marine mammal vocalizations, and multidimensional array data analysis.
Dr. D'Spain is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
