Chris Carey-Smith obtained a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (Telecommunications) in 1979 while working as an electronics technician. He subsequently received the Bachelor of Engineering degree (electrical and electronics) from Canterbury University, New Zealand in 1982, and the Ph.D. degree from Loughborough University of Technology, England in 1987.He was involved in High Definition Television research with Philips in Holland before returning to New Zealand where he now holds a lecturing position in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at the University of Canterbury. His current research interests are multi-media communications, ATM networks and protocols, expert systems, video coding, and extended definition PAL television. His other main interests are his young family and his Christian faith.
