Altan Turgut received the Ph.D. degree in ocean engineering/applied marine physics from the University of Miami in 1990.
During 1990 to 1995, he worked at the University of Miami and Middle East Technical University, Turkey, as a Faculty Member. Since 1995, he has been working in the Acoustics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC. His main research interests are acoustic wave propagation in random media and geophysical inversion techniques, which include in situ measurements of deterministic and stochastic properties of marine sediments and their effects on the acoustic wave propagation in shallow water.
