William E. Woodward (M'80) was born in Boston, MA, on March 12, 1946. He received the B.S. degree cum lande in electrical engineering from Merrimack College, No. Andover, MA, in 1967, and the M.S. degree in ocean engineering from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, in 1969.

After beginning work at the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office in 1968, he joined the National Oceanographic Instrumentation Center which in 1970 became part of NOAA, Rockville, MD. Since that time, he has served in various engineering capacities in NOAA specializing in ocean instrument testing and exploratory development of advanced ocean measurement systems.

Mr. Woodward is a member of the Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) and founder and chairman of the OES Current Measurement Technology Committee.
