D. Scott Hansen was born in Sunnyvale, CA, on February 26, 1953. He received the B.S. degree from Oregon State University, Corvallis, in 1976, the M.S. degree from the University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, in 1982, and the Ph.D. degree from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, in 1984.From 1977 to 1979 he was an employee of Dames and Moore in Anchorage, AK, serving in technical and managerial capacities for interdisciplinary oceanic research programs. During the next five years he was a Research Assistant at the University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, where he was affiliated with the Marine Physical Laboratory of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. At present he is with Bolt, Beranek, and Newman Inc., Washington, DC, where his interests include stratified turbulence, underwater acoustics, and array signal processing.
