Sergey P. Gagarin was born in Gorki, USSR, on October 28, 1949. He received the Diploma Engineer Physicist degree in radio physics from the Moscow Physical Technical Institute in 1974.In 1974 he joined the Institute of Radioengineering & Electronics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where he received the Ph.D. degree in radio physics in 1981. His professional interests focus on the investigation of the turbulent atmosphere and the sea surface by microwave radiometric measurements, in particular, using the satellite techniques.
