Sung Bae Kim received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in nuclear engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, in 1975 and 1977, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986.From 1975 to 1980 he was a Research Scientist at the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute, Seoul. During this period, he was awarded an IAEA Fellowship, and he conducted research on pattern recognition of two-phase flows from 1977 to 1978 in the Instrumentation and Controls Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN. From 1987 to 1993 he was employed by the Electronics Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked on nonlinear system modeling and time series analysis of random data. In 1993 he joined the Institute for Advanced Engineering, Seoul, Korea, as a Chief Engineer in the Electrical Power Systems Laboratory. His current research interests are concerned with utilizing signal processing techniques in system modeling and control of nonlinear phenomena appearing in various physical media.
