W. Linwood Jones was born in Portsmouth, VA, on June 17, 1939. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from VA Polytechnic Institute in 1962, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1965, and the Ph.D. degree from VA Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1971.From 1962 to 1981, he was employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at the Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA. During this time, he developed active and passive microwave remote sensing techniques for the measurement of ocean and ice geophysical parameters. During the NASA SEASAT program, he served as the instrument scientist for the SEASAT-A Satellite Scatterometer. After leaving NASA, he worked on the Direct Broadcast Satellite program first at General Electric Space Division, Valley Forge, PA, and later at COMSAT's Satellite TV Corporation. Presently, he is a principal engineer at Harris Corporation's Government Aerospace Systems Division, where he is involved in space qualified hardware development for the NASA Scatterometer Antennas and the Low Frequency Microwave Radiometer Sensor for the Naval Remote Ocean Sensing System Satellite Program.
