Marwan Simaan (S'69-M'72-SM'79-F'88) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1972.From 1972 to 1974 he was a Visiting Assistant Professor with the Coordinated Science Laboratory and the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois. From 1974 through 1975 he was with Shell Development Company in Houston, TX. Since 1976 he has been on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh, where he is presently Professor of Electrical Engineering. From 1979 to 1985 he also served as a technical consultant in the area of geophysical signal processing for Gulf R & D Company in Pittsburgh, PA. His research interests are mainly in the areas of digital signal processing, optimization, and control.
Dr. Simaan is Associate Editor of the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications and of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING. He is also the Series Editor of Advances in Geophysical Data Processing, published by JAI Press Inc. He is a member of the NY Academy of Sciences, SEG, AAAI, Sigma Xi, Phi Eta Sigma, and Eta Kappa Nu. From 1985 through 1987 he served on the IEEE Publications Board. He was a recipient of the 1985 Transactions Prize Paper Award from the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. Dr. Simaan is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
