M. K. Sistanizadeh was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1957. He received the B.Sc.E.E. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, in 1978. Following a year of graduate study at the University of California at Berkeley, in nuclear engineering, he received the M.Sc.E.E. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, in 1981. He received the M.Sc. degree in applied mathematics in 1985, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in electrical engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

From 1982 to 1984 he was with IBM Corporation, Raleigh, NC.
