Daniel B. Kilfoyle received the S.B. and S.M. degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, in 1986 and 1987, respectively, and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, in 1993. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree from the MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in Oceanographic Engineering.

Prior to beginning his master's work, he served a tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force.
