Hugh C. Pumphrey

Hugh C. Pumphrey was born in Cheshire, England, on September 21, 1964. He received the B.A. degree from Cambridge University in 1986, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Mississippi in 1989. His Ph.D. dissertation described experimental studies of sources of ambient noise in the ocean.

After receiving the doctorate degree, he worked for three months at die National Center for Physical Acoustics, University, MS. He then moved to the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University, where his present work involves methods of extracting useful information from ocean ambient noise.

Dr. Pumphrey is an associate member of the Acoustical Society of America.
